Lighting Lawson (Lightnings)---Jack Liu---Entry 1

"Now that you are towards the end of this unit project and in the process of completion, what do you think is the single most important piece of information you have learned and one that you think is very important for everyone to know about?"

Look around your neighborhood. How many trees do you see? 10? 20? Imagine if 7 to 8 times that amount were destroyed every year, and 27.648 tons of CO2 to be pumped into the air, because of you. Yes, I am being a little over dramatic, but it's still true- Lawson kills about 138 trees per year ONLY because of lighting. Now think that 45% of that is not needed. 120 trees killed, with almost 60 unnecessarily so. That's probably the most crazy thing I learned through this project. Now it's the end, I think that this is EXTREMELY important information, that everybody should know. If everybody learned this, I hope that they would AT LEAST remember to turn the lights off more often. It would be just paradisaical it if people actually bought occupancy sensors. If Lawson bought occupancy sensors, it would almost completely shut out all the wasted electricity for lighting!!! 28 tons of CO2 and 60 trees per year doesn't sound like much, but it could set an example for other schools and, hey, you'll never have to remember to turn the lights off again!
