Change to Energy Efficient Things -- Jeffrey Su Entry #2

I was successful in convincing people to change what they did in their lives. I successfully convinced my dad and mom to start the use CFL's and rechargeable batteries. I think that agreed to change because I told them that they were using lots of electricity, and most of the electricity is made and produces lots of pollution. I also told them that they could save lots of money. At first, CFL's may seem to cost a lot, but in the end you profit in money. After, I told my parents that they can save thousands of dollars if they do one thing. Rechargeable batteries. I found out that a pack of four AA batteries cost $10. A charger cost $20. So in all, a set cost $30. A pack of four disposable Duracell batteries cost $4. Eight cycle of Rechargeable batteries would still have used $30. By the eighth cycle for disposable you would have used $32. After 50 cycles, which is 10% of a rechargeable batteries life, you would still have used only used $30. For the disposable after 50 cycles you would have used $2000! This is how much you can save with rechargeable batteries. When a rechargeable battery finally runs out of life, it would have reached 500 cycles, and only used $30 dollars. While for the disposable batteries, you would have spent $2000! If you buy a pack of 20 batteries you can save about $38600. By buying 1000 batteries, (which can last a very long time) you can save almost 2 million dollars. Of course, this will last a very long time. An important thing I learned in convincing people is saying something about danger and money. Being in danger always catches the readers attention, but money captures even more. One thing that people most care about is money, so saying something about saying money will really effect them. An more effective way to convince people is to talk more about what is going to happen to their child and money. I told my parents lots of thing about money, but not as much about children and money. Something that people care even more then money is probably their children. They always want their children to be safe. So when you tell them to use energy efficient things, tell them that making the energy is producing lots of pollution which is contributing to global warming. If they don't try to help, their children could be in danger.
