Changing Lives---- (Ananya Tyagi) Entry #2

"Were you successful in convincing people to make a change in their lives in regards to your project? Why do you think they did or did not agree to make a change? What did you learn about what it takes to persuade people to make a change in their lifestyle and how can you more effectively convince people to make a change if you were to do this again?"

I showed four people my project. I checked on all of them and it seemed like they made a difference. Our project was about wasting electricity, etc. One of the people showed me their electricity bill, and there was a big difference in the two, from last month (January) and this month(end of February) They probably agreed to make a change because they want to help the Earth and did not notice what little things they did. I learned that you had to show people what they can do and to make people convinced effectively, you have to really push them in to doing good for the Earth, and then it will become a habbit and they will do it more often.

Change A Little Bit, Okay? -Sara P. #2

"Were you successful in convincing people to make a change in their lives in regards to your project? Why do you think they did or did not agree to make a change? What did you learn about what it takes to persuade people to make a change in their lifestyle and how can you more effectively convince people to make a change if you were to do this again?"

I was successful in convincing people to change their lives when the saw our movie about global warming and its impacct. In the movie, we talked about how wasting electrcity can cause global warming effecting polar bears and their habitat. They agreed to make aa change becuase they were concerned about the effect of rising temperatures on plants and animals. We were able to convince them to make small changes like turning off lights, unplugging things (printers, computers, coffee makers, etc.) when they're not using it. I can make a diagram of how fossil fuels are burned to make electricity and how it can cause global warming if it continues. In the movie, we could put more details of how wasting electricity causes global warming and how it effects the future.

Changing Lives

When I showed people our project, 3/4 people were convinced about climate change/global warming and it's impacts. I was successful in showing them that they could make changes in their lives. Only one person had to think about it. I think that person did not agree because it takes a lot of character to try and change their routine each day. Most people will not even try. I think I was successful in convincing most of the people because when they saw the project, they learned the impacts of global warming/climate change and were shocked. They admitted that when they heard of marine life impacts, they never stopped to consider it. They told me that they now know the importance of making small changes in their daily lives.
I learned from this experience that when you are trying to convince somebody to do something really big to their lives, you need a big impact about the problem. For example, if you are trying to convince someone to do little things in their lives to halt global warming/climate change, you need to tell them a big impact, such as marine life getting affected. Yes, some people may not care, but others might get frightened. They will vow to make a change in their lives.
If I were to do this project again, I would elaborate more on what was said in the project. I would use more facts and give more reasons why people should make a change.

Oil Depletion --- Siddhi Satheesh Entry #2

During this part of the project, my partner and I were successful in convincing people we interviewed. They seemed very convinced that oil depletion was a problem, and it turned out they were! I think they agreed to make a change because oil depletion is a major crisis which contributes to animal habitats being destroyed by the huge demand of oil . We might be forced to drill where animals live. With so many people using oil the amount of oil we have currently is reducing more and more. With the amount of consumption today, the Co2 and greenhouse gas level are rising. This leads to the Earth becoming warmer and warmer, which is named Global Warming . From this project I learned that it takes a huge amount of hard work, details, real-life examples, and determination to persuade somebody to change his/her lifestyle. If I were to do this again I would have used some persuasive essay skills that we used in Language Arts. For example, I could have used the counterargument to differ what the government and some people think. I could explain the actual state of the planet right now and what we need to do to help. From this project, I belived that I have spread the message that oil depletion is a problem we need to fix now.

One small step for man, one huge leap for humanity---Julie Entry #2

We tried to convince 5 people to change their ways. Luckily 4 people did get convinced and stopped buying too much useless food like junk food, eat less meat, and try to donate to a local food drive. But, one person that we were trying to convince to donate to a food drive was apparently not convinced enough. I think that the 4 people that got convinced got convinced because we didn't just say the facts, we actually tested them out and asked different people about it like:the Safeway manager, Ms.Sun, and the school lunch lady. Also, so that they could feel a little sympathy for the hungry people, we put a little clip in the video with sad music and a little hope in it and with pictures of hungry children in Africa. But I think that the one person didn't get convinced enough because I think that instead of making our film too funny we should have made it more serious so that they will think more seriously about changing their lifestyle.

When Neil Armstrong walked on the moon for the first time, he said "One small step for man, one huge leap for mankind." Just like that, changing your life can be small, but it helps greatly!

We Are Using Too Much Oil!---Akshay B. Entry#2

I was successful in convincing people to change their lives in a way that relates to my topic. They agreed to make a change because they knew what kind of oil crisis we were going through, and they wanted to help. It takes a lot to explain how to persuade people to make changes in their lifestyles, even by a little bit. I should have gave them real-life examples so they could understand the problem better and try to fix it.

Not really successful-Kevin Lin entry#2

Not many people do this in such little time, none of the people actually bought hybrid cars but will probably in the future(one year from now). Even though the hybrid cars use less gas, we will still eventually run of of gas, even if we all drove hybrid cars. Some people don't even care about the environment because gas is expensive enough, so they think they don't have to pay so much money for cars. To persuade people to change the environment is very hard. You have to give a lot of facts. To convince them like for my project I would show them a massive number of how much gas we use every day.

Success! Srikar Boinapally Entry #2

I was successful in having people do eco friendly things, because I was only asking them to do things which were really easy. I think to persuade people to things, you should only ask people to do simple things. This way people can't say I cant do it because its too time consuming and Im very busy. To persuade people you just have to ask for something people can easily do.

Successful Persuading---Jasmine Till Entry #2

"Were you successful in convincing people to make a change in their lives in regards to your project? Why do you think they did or did not agree to make a change? What did you learn about what it takes to persuade people to make a change in their lifestyle and how can you more effectively convince people to make a change if you were to do this again?"

Yes, I was successful in convincing people to make a change in their lives in regarding my project. I think they agreed because they felt sorry for all those hungry, skinny, sad looking children in Africa. I learned that if I ever wanted to do persuade people to make a change in their lifestyle I would have to give them a video, or some kind of visual aid so they could see how sad/bad our problem was. We were successful because in all, we tried to convince 6 people, and 4 people actually changed.

A Change That Can Change The World Jorge Lizalde Entery #2

I was lucky to convince my sister, my dad, and my mommy to make a change in their life that can protect the Earth from greenhouse gasses (Carbon dioxide). I think that the reason the people decided to change because they also thought the Earth was also becoming a big burnt meat ball. because of carbon dioxide which is realized into the atmosphere as greenhouse gasses. I think it was hard to convenes people to make a change because they would say "oh" i cant or "oh" im to busy so I had to make allot of counter-arguments. If I were to show them this again I would try to be more mean or more convincing to the people or be more harsh then I was before.

A Change Of Life By Jorge Lizalde Entery # 1

Greenhouse gasses have been an issue many people don't care if it damages the Earth. It is caused by burning fossil fuels an using carbon dioxide someactivities that make greenhouse gas's emissions rise are using the car to much Or using allot of carbon dioxide. But it gets worse greenhouse gasses would make global warming even woAdd Imagerse then it already is. in case you didn't know this when their is allot of global warming it gets really hot which causes allot of animals to die or ruin their homes. It can also kill plants and HUMANS. But we can all make a diffrence and start using less carbon dioxide. Thier are many ways to use less carbon dioxid like driving less or lets you have a nieghbor and her son and yours go to the same school they can carpool instead of having another car on the road. And finally you can controll or limit the population of your state or country. You can also plant alot of trees because TREES clean carbon dioxide.

Energy Efficient Appliances - Joseph Liu Entry #2

My group focused on energy efficient appliances like CFLs, rechargeable batteries, and solar panels. I didn't have to persuade my parents to get CFLs because nearly ALL of our household's lightbulbs are CFLs. I knew that solar panels were out of reach because we don't have enough space. The only appliance left was the rechargeable battery. I was successful in convincing my parents to get some rechargeable batteries. I learned that you have to tell the consumer why it saves you MONEY. Nearly everyone LOVES money, so if you tell them advantages that they like, there is a good chance that they will agree. I told my parents the cheap price on Amazon and how a rechargeable battery saves money even though it seems more expensive. They agreed to buy it. :)

Not to successful Jared Tseng entry 2

Since our project was viewed by 118 people, we just asked everyone if they did anything. Very few did actually donate an animal. I think they didn't make a change because of money problems. Since to donate you need a credit card and I doubt many of them had one. I believe they wanted to but couldn't. I think we could persuade an older audience who could donate with a credit card.

Maybe..but I don't know-Henry Overhauser

My Dad said that as soon as the price and the efficiency with refueling stations is better, he would definitely buy one. My sister said Mommy, whats that? And lastly, My Mom said I just don't think it will work even in in twenty years, and I also fell a lot worse about the environment.

Changing Energy usage to Solar Panels or Something Else Eco-friendly - Michelle Rao Entry #2

Were you successful in convincing people to make a change in their lives in regards to your project? Why do you think they did or did not agree to make a change? What did you learn about what it takes to persuade people to make a change in their lifestyle and how can you more effectively convince people to make a change if you were to do this again?

I was not successful in convincing people to make a change in their lives in regards to our group's project. My mom said that we are a looking for a house to buy and when we buy a house, we won't have enough money to but solar panels, hybrids, etc. I learned that it is very hard to persuade people to make a change when it could affect their entire life. I think we can more effectively convince people to make a change if we were to do this again if we faced everyone we were convincing as an entire group. Also, we can give more PROS and emphasize the differences we can make to help the earth.

Changing energy source and usage- Sanika M. Entry #2

We asked our audience to research what they could do to change their energy source, and change it if possible. Since we knew that many people do not have that option, we also asked them to reduce their electricity in other ways, like change lightbulbs to CFL's, or use a hybrid car, etc. For the change the energy source aspect, we werent' too successful. Our audience did research what they could do, but none actually changed their energy source. However, one person did change a few lightbulbs to CFL, and already had a hybrid car. And I think they were inspired a little to make some changes because of our movie. But I learned that it takes a big problem for people, especially since changing energy sources can be so expensive. Global warming is a problem, but people won't be obliged to help until something major happens because of global warming. Telling them what might happen doesn't always help. Next time, we should include in our movie what has already happened, and also how it directly affects or will affect the person. This will drive them to make a change.

Usage of solar panels---Tom Liu Entry #2

"Were you successful in convincing people to make a change in their lives in regards to your project? Why do you think they did or did not agree to make a change? What did you learn about what it takes to persuade people to make a change in their lifestyle and how can you more effectively convince people to make a change if you were to do this again?"

Overall, I was not successful. My parents disagreed because they said it was way to expensive. I told them it will pay off after eight years, but they said NO. They said eight years was way too long. Plus, they said they said they didn't have the time or extra money to do so. I learned that it is very hard to persuade people, and you have to have ideas that others cannot argue against. It takes a long time to change how you live, and in order to really persuade people, always let them know the PROs, not the CONs. In order to persuade people more efficently, you need to have a better persuading prop and PRACTICE. Practice, practice, and practice. Practice makes Perfect.

What We Can Do

To prevent global warming, there are some things we can do. One of them is not wasting electricitiy. You maybe wondering how is electricity going to solve the problem. Here's how. If we use less electricity, then fossil fuels will be burned to produce it. If fossil fuels are burned, then greenhouse gases will be emitted. When greenhouse gases are in the atmosphere, the heat is trapped in the air, causing it to raise the temperature. As many of you know, global warming is when the Earth heats up. But, if we reduce burning of fossil fuels, less greenouse gases will be emitted, so reducing global warming. Some ways you can conserve electricity are to make sure you turn off lights and any electronics when not in use. Also, you can use energy efficient light bulbs, LED bulbs to save electricity. Take plugs out from the electric outlet for computers and T.V. Open the curtains when it's sunny out instead of using lights.

Natural Resources Blog Reflection-Jyothi Entry #2

When we performed our presentation to our audience, they agreed to make a change. I think they agreed because they wanted to save the Earth from global warming so they decided to make a change.I realized that its really hard to make someone change their lifestyle because they have so many," Why should we do this?" or " How will doing this help?" Sometimes these questions are easy to answer and sometimes their not. It just depends on the topic. If I were to do this again I would put more reasons and more shocking reasons so they will have to change their lifestyle.

Use less water-Durga Entry #2

Prompt:
"Were you successful in convincing people to make a change in their lives in regards to your project? Why do you think they did or did not agree to make a change? What did you learn about what it takes to persuade people to make a change in their lifestyle and how can you more effectively convince people to make a change if you were to do this again?"
Answer:
When my group presented to their own parents they did make a slight change...at least my parents. I think they did agree to make a change because they wanted to learn how to save the Earth. They did it also because they wanted to get used to using less water since that was our topic, World Thirst. To convince the audience I tell about the future. What would happen if you did not do it. I even persuade them by telling that everybody is doing it so you should do it too! That is how I convince my audience. Overall, my presentation was a success!

Water Distribution---Sneha Ramesh Entry #1

Sorry this is a bit late........ ;)
I think the most important piece of information that I have learned would probably be that water distribution ISN'T EVEN around the world, and is causing major problems, and death around the world. I want everybody to know that even simple changes such as not wasting water and turning off the faucet when you brush your teeth in the morning is a gigantic change, and it can make a big difference. So I'm just saying that simple changes can lead to big differences. =)

Change to Energy Efficient Things -- Jeffrey Su Entry #2

I was successful in convincing people to change what they did in their lives. I successfully convinced my dad and mom to start the use CFL's and rechargeable batteries. I think that agreed to change because I told them that they were using lots of electricity, and most of the electricity is made and produces lots of pollution. I also told them that they could save lots of money. At first, CFL's may seem to cost a lot, but in the end you profit in money. After, I told my parents that they can save thousands of dollars if they do one thing. Rechargeable batteries. I found out that a pack of four AA batteries cost $10. A charger cost $20. So in all, a set cost $30. A pack of four disposable Duracell batteries cost $4. Eight cycle of Rechargeable batteries would still have used $30. By the eighth cycle for disposable you would have used $32. After 50 cycles, which is 10% of a rechargeable batteries life, you would still have used only used $30. For the disposable after 50 cycles you would have used $2000! This is how much you can save with rechargeable batteries. When a rechargeable battery finally runs out of life, it would have reached 500 cycles, and only used $30 dollars. While for the disposable batteries, you would have spent $2000! If you buy a pack of 20 batteries you can save about $38600. By buying 1000 batteries, (which can last a very long time) you can save almost 2 million dollars. Of course, this will last a very long time. An important thing I learned in convincing people is saying something about danger and money. Being in danger always catches the readers attention, but money captures even more. One thing that people most care about is money, so saying something about saying money will really effect them. An more effective way to convince people is to talk more about what is going to happen to their child and money. I told my parents lots of thing about money, but not as much about children and money. Something that people care even more then money is probably their children. They always want their children to be safe. So when you tell them to use energy efficient things, tell them that making the energy is producing lots of pollution which is contributing to global warming. If they don't try to help, their children could be in danger.

Overcoming Air Pollution and lead a healthy life --- Abishak Govindarajan

Air Pollution is a growing hazard and degrading our health life. When I tried to convince people, couple of people accepted on the suggested solutions and some were arguing for alternate solutions. Of course, there are n number of ways are available to reduce pollution. The main stress on my research and movie is on automobile pollution, which contributes mainly for pollution compared to other pollutions.
On controlling pollution in the automobile too, there are many ways to control it. Everyone has there own options / opinions. Hence, by the way of statistics and information through reliable sources, I convinced the people.
The reliable information on solutions to overcome Air Pollution with the numbers and statistics, I strongly believe in conviencing the people to make the change in their lives, leading to a healthy and happy life.
